Need some breakfast meal-prep inspiration you won’t get sick of? This easy strata recipe is made in individual portions so you can customize each one!

I love prepping breakfasts ahead of time for an easier morning. But sometimes, by the end of the week, I find myself getting tired of eating the same thing again and again.

That’s where this easy strata recipe is perfect! You make the servings individually, so it’s super easy to customize each one. It’s a great way to keep breakfast quick without it getting boring.

Strata is a cross between bread pudding and quiche. You put cubed day-old bread into ramekins with cheese, eggs, milk, and seasonings, then store them in the refrigerator. Once you’re ready to eat, just pop a ramekin in the oven.

If you love eating a hot meal in the morning that doesn’t require a bunch of prep or effort, this recipe is for you. Just throw everything together a night or two before, then it’s ready to go straight in the oven in the morning!

How to make this easy strata recipe

The base recipe can be made with just four ingredients plus seasonings. Once you see how it’s done, you can get creative with any other ingredients you want to use.

Step 1: Spray a 7-ounce ramekin or small ovenproof bowl with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 2: Place the bread in the ramekin and sprinkle the cheese on top.

Step 3: In a measuring cup, combine the milk, egg, seasoning, and salt and pepper. Whisk everything together, then pour over the bread and cheese in the ramekin.

Step 4: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Step 5: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Remove the strata from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

Step 6: Place the ramekin on a small baking pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the strata is set.

Talk about an easy breakfast! Just let it sit out and cook while you get ready for your day, and then your delicious strata will be waiting for you.

Easy variations for this recipe

Want to see how you can play around with the ingredients and flavors in your strata? Here are some ideas to get you started!

If you’re craving Italian flavors, try using herb bread, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasoning. Or, for more Mediterranean flavors, try using olive bread, feta cheese, and Greek seasoning.

For a funky burst of flavor, one of my favorite combinations is French bread, cheddar cheese, and Cajun seasoning. I also love using whole grain bread, pepper jack cheese, and taco seasoning!

You can get a ton of flavor from the bread you use. I’ve tried whole grain bread, white bread, gluten-free bread, herb bread, sun-dried tomato bread, even jalapeño bread and had great success with all of them.

Similarly, you can use any cheese you like. Cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, feta, pepper jack, gruyère, you name it. Or try a combination!

There’s no limit to the flavor combinations you can achieve with your strata. That’s what makes this dish so fun!

Storage

Strata should only sit in the refrigerator for up to two days before you bake it. I usually prep two strata for myself at night, then eat one in the morning and one the following day.

If you have leftover baked strata, you can store it covered in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for three or four days.
