This sesame coconut-crusted halibut is a delicious way to serve fresh fish! The mustard, sesame, and coconut crust adds perfect flavor and crunch.
I’m always on the lookout for new ways to prepare fish. Even though I know it’s such a healthy protein, I find myself getting bored of recipes very quickly.
But I don’t know if I could ever get bored of this sesame coconut-crusted halibut! The incredible flavor and crunch of the crust combined with the moist, flaky fish is simply delightful.
In reality, I would make this dish all the time if I could find good halibut more often! Usually, the selection at the store doesn’t look too great, especially not for the prices they’re asking.
But whenever I do find a beautiful-looking halibut fillet, I snap it up in a heartbeat and rush home to make this delicious recipe!
How to make sesame coconut-crusted halibut
While this dish looks and tastes very impressive, it’s actually quite simple to make!
Step 1: Coat both sides of each halibut fillet with mustard, about 1 teaspoon per side.
Step 2: Cut the fillets in half so you have 4 pieces of halibut.
Step 3: In a shallow bowl, mix together the coconut and sesame seeds.
Step 4: Coat both sides of each halibut fillet with the coconut mixture, then season with pepper to taste.
Step 5: In a skillet large enough to hold all four fillets, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Step 6: Once the oil is hot, add the halibut fillets. Cook for about 4 minutes, then flip and cook the other side for another 3 minutes or so. The fish should be golden on the outside and opaque all the way through.
Transfer to 4 plates and serve immediately!
What to serve with halibut
With their flavorful crust and moist, flaky texture, the halibut fillets are going to be the star of your main course. So when it comes to your sides, you can keep it pretty simple.
I like to serve this dish with steamed veggies. Broccoli or asparagus are always a great choice.
If you’re looking for a salad with a little more flavor, try my lemony romaine and avocado salad. Or you could whip up my sugar snap pea salad with lemon vinaigrette for another healthy option.
In the mood for something more substantial? This roasted asparagus with goat cheese and pine nuts is always a crowd favorite!
Whatever you decide to serve with your halibut, just keep in mind that the fish is going to steal the show.
Storage
I highly recommend eating this dish right away. A crusted fish entrée is always going to be best when it’s hot and crispy out of the oven.
If you do have any leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. I recommend eating within a day or two.
