Balsamic vinaigrette

No need to run to the store — you can make this easy balsamic vinaigrette right at home! All you need is five simple ingredients and a whisk.

Hand pouring balsamic vinaigrette over a salad

I think balsamic vinegar is such an amazing ingredient. The rich, complex flavor is a balance of sweet and sour and sometimes even has a slight smokiness to it. It’s a powerful addition to any recipe!

Which makes it perfect for a simple but delicious homemade balsamic vinaigrette.

In case you didn’t know, “vinaigrette” refers to a mixture of oil and something acidic. The base of this recipe is balsamic vinegar and olive oil, so there you go!

Just grab some garlic, mustard, salt and pepper, a bowl, and a whisk, and you have everything you need to make this easy recipe!

How to make balsamic vinaigrette

This versatile vinaigrette is so simple to make, it’s easier than running to the store to buy some… and in most cases, it will be better for you, too!

Ingredients for the vinaigrette in individual bowls on table

Step 1: Combine the balsamic vinegar, garlic, mustard, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.

Step 2: Whisk until well-combined.

Step 3: While continuing to whisk, add the olive oil in a steady stream.

Once everything is whisked together, you can serve immediately!

What to eat with this vinaigrette

Balsamic pairs very well with many foods.

It goes really well with fruit, berries, and other sweet ingredients, which is why I love using this vinaigrette to dress my watermelon salad. The flavors come together so nicely!

It’s also fantastic with my Mediterranean salad. The pungent balsamic with the creamy feta or goat cheese is truly wonderful.

This vinaigrette will liven up any salad. Or, you could use it to marinate your vegetables before throwing them on the grill for an extra pop of flavor!

Storage

This vinaigrette is ready to serve immediately. Any extra can be stored in the refrigerator in a jar with a screw-top lid.

The ingredients will likely separate, so before serving, be sure to shake the jar vigorously!

I generally don’t keep it for more than 1-2 weeks in a sealed container in the fridge
